Terms of Service
Who we are and how these Terms work
Arveli is a voice-guided cooking companion, operated by Pariwesh Tamrakar, an Australian business ("we", "us"). Our full contact details are in the last section.
Two different documents apply when you use Arveli, and it is worth being clear about which does what. The licence to install and run the app itself is Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement — the "Apple licence" — which you can read at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. These Terms of Service govern the Arveli SERVICE: your account, the content you put into it, the AI cooking guidance, and any subscription you buy.
If something in these Terms conflicts with the Apple licence, or with a right you have under the law where you live that cannot lawfully be given up, that right prevails over these Terms.
By using the service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Who can use Arveli
You must be at least 13 years old to use Arveli. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who should read these Terms with you. Where the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to online services, that higher age applies instead.
Your account and the trial
When you finish the welcome screens and start using Arveli, we create an anonymous trial account on your device so you can import a recipe and cook it before deciding whether to sign up. It has no email address attached and nothing to sign in to — it lives on that device, identified by a token stored there. If you lose the device or delete the app, that trial and its recipes go with it.
When you add an email address (or sign in with Apple or Google), the trial account is upgraded in place: the recipes, ratings and cooking history you have already built up stay with it. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for what happens on your account; tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings — the row reads Delete account, or Delete trial while the account has no email address on it. Deletion is described in our Privacy Policy.
Using Arveli responsibly
Use Arveli lawfully, and in the ordinary way it is meant to be used. In particular, please do not:
- attempt to break, disable, overload or interfere with the service or the servers it runs on;
- scrape it, automate it, or use it in a way designed to extract more of it than a person cooking would;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to derive our source code, except to the extent the law expressly permits that despite this term;
- use it to break the law, to infringe someone else’s rights, or to get around a limit on your plan; or
- upload or share anything unlawful, infringing, hateful, or harmful in your photos, notes or ratings.
Recipes you import
Arveli lets you bring a recipe in from a web page, from text you paste, or from a photo you take, so you can cook it. You may do that for your own personal, non-commercial cooking. You are responsible for having the right to import the material you import — for example, that you may lawfully use a recipe from a book you own or a page you can access.
When you import, we store the recipe text our tool extracts, in your account, for you. Images from the original publisher are not copied to our servers; the app displays them directly from the publisher’s own site.
If you own copyright in material you believe appears in Arveli without permission, tell us and we will act on it. Email support@arveli.app with the subject "[Copyright] Arveli", and include the web address of the original material, where it appears in Arveli, and enough detail for us to find it and to confirm you are entitled to complain. We remove content in response to valid notices, and we may terminate the accounts of people who infringe repeatedly.
Your photos, notes and ratings
The photos, notes and ratings you add are yours. You keep every right you have in them.
So that the service can actually work, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process and display that content back to you — and, at the moment you tap Share on a photo of a finished dish, to make that photo available at a public link so the app you share it into can display it. That is the whole purpose of the licence, and it goes no further: we do not use your content to advertise, and we do not license it to anyone else.
The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that have already been shared by you and for routine backups, which age out over a short period.
If you see content in Arveli that should not be there, tell us: email support@arveli.app with the subject "[Report content] Arveli" and describe what you saw and where. We review reports and remove content that breaches these Terms.
Ember, AI and food safety
Ember is the assistant inside the app. It uses AI to read recipes, answer questions while you cook, suggest substitutions, and speak the steps aloud. Please read the next paragraph properly — it is the most important one in this document.
AI gets things wrong. Ember can be wrong about quantities, timings, temperatures, techniques and substitutions, and a recipe that was imported from a web page or a photo, or generated from your ingredients, can contain errors of its own. Ember is a cooking companion, not a professional adviser: it does not give medical, nutritional or allergy advice, and nothing it says is a substitute for your own judgement.
You are the cook, and the kitchen is yours. Check allergens and intolerances yourself against the original source and the packaging in front of you. Cook meat, poultry, eggs and seafood to a safe temperature. Follow tested, authoritative guidance for anything where getting it wrong is dangerous — preserving, canning, fermenting, or cooking for someone who is pregnant, immunocompromised, very young or very old. Where a recipe came from somewhere else, check it against that source.
None of this changes any consumer guarantee or other right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded — see "Our responsibility to you" below.
Free tier and Premium
Arveli has a free tier and a paid one. On the free tier you can save up to 25 recipes, use roughly 55 minutes of voice guidance a month, and run 5 recipe searches a day. Cooking a recipe you have already saved is never blocked by a limit.
Premium (a monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase) removes the saved-recipe cap and the limits on voice guidance and recipe search. Two features stay bounded even on a paid plan: creating a recipe from ingredients you have, and importing a recipe from a photo, are together limited to 150 a month. Each of those makes a whole new recipe and a new photograph, which costs us real money per use; the cap is far above ordinary cooking and exists to keep the service sustainable and available for everyone.
We may change these limits. If a change reduces what you get, we will give you notice in the app before it takes effect.
Subscriptions and renewal
Subscriptions are sold through the App Store and billed to your Apple ID. The price is the one the App Store shows you, in your own currency, including any tax it collects.
A subscription renews automatically for another period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges you for the next period within the 24 hours before it begins.
You manage and cancel a subscription in your App Store subscription settings, not in Arveli — we cannot cancel it for you. Deleting your Arveli account does not cancel an active subscription.
Lifetime purchase
The lifetime option is a single, one-time purchase rather than a subscription. "Lifetime" means for as long as we operate the Arveli service — it is the service's lifetime, not yours, and we want to be plain about that rather than clever.
If we ever decide to discontinue the service, we will give reasonable notice in the app or by email to the address on your account. Nothing in this section limits any right you have under consumer law, including any right to a remedy if the service is discontinued in a way that fails a consumer guarantee.
Refunds
Purchases are made through the App Store, and Apple processes refunds for them. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com and follow the steps there. We do not have access to your payment details and cannot process an App Store refund ourselves.
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or the consumer laws where you live, including consumer guarantees. If a guarantee is not met you may be entitled to a remedy from us — contact support@arveli.app and tell us what happened, and we will work it out with you.
Changes to the service and to these Terms
Arveli will change over time — features get added, changed and sometimes removed. We may also update these Terms, for example when the service changes or the law does.
When we make a material change to these Terms, we will notify you in the app and publish the new version with a new effective date. If you keep using the service after that date, you accept the updated Terms. If you would rather not, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account from Settings.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, or where we must in order to comply with the law or to protect the service or other people. Where it is practicable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right; where a breach is serious or ongoing, we may act immediately.
The sections that by their nature should outlive the account do: the licence terms for content you have already shared, our and your intellectual-property rights, "Our responsibility to you", and "Governing law and disputes".
Intellectual property
Arveli and Ember — the apps, the names, the design, the software, and the text and audio we produce — belong to us or to our licensors, and these Terms do not transfer any of that to you. You get the right to use the service as it is meant to be used, and nothing more.
Your content stays yours, on the terms set out in "Your photos, notes and ratings" above.
Our responsibility to you
We will provide the service with due care and skill, and we take it seriously when we fall short.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified — including the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law and the equivalent protections where you live. If any part of these Terms would have that effect, it does not apply to you to that extent.
Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows: we are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, or that you could have avoided by taking reasonable care — for example, by checking allergens against the packaging in front of you, and by checking that food is properly cooked, rather than relying on Ember alone.
Privacy
What we collect, who we share it with and how long we keep it are set out in our Privacy Policy, which is part of your agreement with us. It is in the app under Settings, and on our website at arveli.app. If you have a question about it, email support@arveli.app.
Governing law and disputes
If something goes wrong, please talk to us first — email support@arveli.app. Most problems are quicker to fix than to argue about, and we would rather fix them.
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
Wherever you live, the consumer protections available to you under your own local law continue to apply, and this section does not take them away or make them harder to use.
